About College Stand

Meet the author

Hello, welcome to my blog!

My name is Muhammad, I am a 21-year-old college student in my final year of engineering school!

I am originally from Palestine, was born in Houston TX and grew up in Jordon. I came back to the US at the age of 18 to study college.

Why I created College Stand

When I started college, I was asked, “What do you want to do with your life?” For the first time, I had to seriously think about it. Sure, I had a general idea of what I wanted my life to look like, but I never gave it real thought in high school.

So, I gave myself some time and started researching different majors and career paths. It wasn’t until then that I realized I had no clue what I actually wanted to study.

So over the next three semesters, I did my research and I took classes from a variety of majors to see what truly interested me. And it helped to narrow things down, but I will say…

The single thing that helped me most was reading “I Could Do Anything If I Only Knew What It Was” by Barbara Sher. It gave me the clarity and confidence to finally choose a major that felt right for me.

Afterward, I spoke with my academic advisor, who assured me that many students are in the same position during their first few semesters.

He also explained why so many students feel uncertain at the start of their college journey and shared some ideas for how to address it.

Reflecting on my own experience, I realized how much easier that phase would have been if I had had the right mentorship from the start.

That’s when I decided to create College Stand, a platform designed for future students who want to learn everything about college and, ultimately, find a career path that fits them.

Am i qualified to give advice?

To be clear, I don’t claim to be a college expert, nor am I trying to present myself as one. My goal is to give advice from the perspective of someone who has been able to overcome the same challenges you’re facing in college.

I am about to finish my Junior year in college, and I’ve learned so much through personal experience. In fact, my college journey has been especially immersive, here are some of the experiences that I base my advice on, plus how I go about writing my articles.

  • I currently serve as the Student Government Association (SGA) President at Houston Community College Northwest campuses, representing a student body of more than 10,000 students. This helped me collaborate with actual college experts, learning a lot through them.
  • Over the past two years, I’ve worked in student services at Houston Community College. This particularly helped me understand the backend of college and how things operate.

  • The articles on my blog are thoroughly researched, with most approved by experts in post-secondary education.

  • I raised my GPA from a 2.6 in my first year to a 3.9 by my third year, which helped me learn discipline, productivity and time management.

  • Products reviewed are personally tested by me and always presented with a fair, unbiased opinion.
